Ming / Privacy
Privacy Policy
This policy explains how Ming handles learning data, analytics, purchases, retention, and deletion.
Information Ming Handles
Ming has no login and does not ask for your name, email address, phone number, or date of birth. The app stores learning information you create or generate, including saved and Personal Cards, lesson and Block progress, Review history, daily activity, and preferences.
Firebase Analytics receives a deliberately limited set of product-interaction events, such as onboarding completion, lesson and Review activity, paywall views, and purchase completion. Google may process a pseudonymous app-instance identifier, app version, device model and operating-system information, language, and approximate region derived from network information. These events do not contain card text, Personal Card content, names, contact details, precise location, payment-card information, or an Apple iCloud identifier.
How We Use Information
Ming uses learning information to schedule Reviews, show progress, remember settings, and synchronize supported data through iCloud. Pseudonymous product analytics are used in aggregate to understand whether core flows work and where learners stop. Ming does not sell or rent personal information, show advertising, create advertising profiles, or use learning content for advertising.
Storage and Retention
Learning data remains in Ming’s local SwiftData store until you reset it or remove the app from that device. When iCloud is available for Ming, Apple synchronizes supported learning data through a private CloudKit database associated with your Apple Account. Ming remains usable without iCloud, but changes made while iCloud is unavailable cannot reach other devices until service resumes. Apple controls access to and retention of your iCloud account data.
Firebase Analytics event-level and user-level data is retained for no longer than 14 months and may be deleted sooner under Ming’s analytics settings. Aggregated reports that no longer identify an app instance may be retained longer to compare product reliability over time.
Purchases
Apple processes Ming subscriptions, purchases, and payment information. Ming uses StoreKit on your device to check whether your Apple Account has an active membership, owns Lifetime access, or previously held paid access so already-reached learning can remain available after expiry. Ming does not receive or store your payment-card details, and purchase authority is not stored in SwiftData or CloudKit.
Diagnostics and Tracking
Ming uses Firebase Analytics for the limited product events described above. Ming does not set a Firebase user ID or send learning content or contact details with those events. Ming does not use the advertising identifier, show third-party ads, or track you across other companies’ apps or websites. Apple may also provide diagnostics under your device and App Store privacy choices.
Service Providers
Ming uses Apple for private CloudKit synchronization, StoreKit purchases, app distribution, and optional platform diagnostics. Ming uses Google Firebase only for product analytics; Firebase Authentication and Firestore are not used by the app. This website is delivered through Cloudflare, which may process IP address, browser, device, and request information to deliver and secure the site. Ming does not add website analytics or advertising cookies.
These providers are permitted to process information only to provide their services and must protect it under their agreements and applicable law. Their own policies also apply: Apple Privacy, Google Privacy, and Cloudflare Privacy.
Your Choices and Consent
You can change preferences, view iCloud sync availability, and reset learning progress in Ming Settings. You can disable iCloud access for Ming in Apple’s system settings. Disabling iCloud stops synchronization but does not necessarily remove data already held in your private iCloud database. Deleting the app removes its local data from that device but may not remove synchronized iCloud data.
Ming’s limited analytics does not require the App Tracking Transparency permission because it is not used to track you across apps or websites. If the app adds tracking or a materially different data use in the future, Ming will update this policy and obtain any permission required by Apple before that use begins.
Data Deletion
Reset All in Ming deletes cards, progress, Review history, and synchronized preferences from the app’s SwiftData store; those deletions synchronize through iCloud when available. You can also manage Ming’s iCloud data through Apple’s device and account controls. Analytics records already aggregated or retained by Firebase cannot be selected by learning-progress reset because Ming has no account and does not attach a Ming user identifier to them. They expire under the retention policy above. Resetting data or deleting Ming does not cancel a subscription or erase a purchase held by Apple.
Privacy Requests
For access, correction, deletion, or other privacy questions, email support (at) hongliangsun (dot) com or visit Ming Support. Ming will respond to reasonable privacy requests and may need enough information to verify and understand the request. For data held in your private iCloud account, Apple’s account and device controls may also apply.
Children
Ming is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child provided personal information without appropriate consent, contact support.
